RULES for the 400 GAME

Label with orange outer border, then black outline.

"THE" (yellow with thick black outline) appears at upper left. To the right and below, in a much larger font, "400" (orange interiors at bottom, then orange and light brown dashes above, then light brown interiors at top; with white borders then black outer borders), and "GAME" (curving up from below the "4", in yellow on the left letters changing to orange on the right ones, with black outline).

The left one-thirds of the cover shows a palm plant in an orange/yellow urn at lower left. A ribbon of light blue and several white spots appears across top, ending at upper left with a bow. The background is pink at upper left, yellow for most of the upper right, light green below across center, and light blue below behind the palm plant.

A white then pink diagonal separates the left one-third from the right two-thirds of the cover.

The left part of the righ two-thirds side depicts a man (black/blue suit, white shirt, small bowtie, brown hair, dark mustache) and woman (golden/brown top, low on shoulders, and a light blue long dress). To the right is a man (black/blue suit, balding dark hair, small bowtie, holding a black/blue hat in his right hand, with dark mustache and muttonchop sideburns). The right part of this side shows another man (black/blue suit, balding dark hair, with dark mustache and muttonchop sideburns) seated behind a snifter with two glasses plus a few flowering plants. To his right is a woman (brown hair, low-cut blue top and light brown dress) seated in a brown/yellow chair and holding a brown/pink fan.

Behind them is a large assortment of men and women dancing.

At upper right is a folded pink sheet labeled "FAVORS" on each side of the fold, with a tassel handing below it.

Various palm trees and lamps appear in the background.

The bifold game board measures 17" square and 1/8" thick. The back is dark red with no markings.

The board side has a label depicting the game board with two pink diagonals and four pathways from the 3" round green felt in each corner to the 3 1/4" round colored goals, each marked with "THE CHARMED CIRCLE" around the top, above "OF THE" (all in black), above "400" (light background with black border), above [COLOR] GOAL". The corners behind the felt are marked "[COLOR] BASE", with a ring of that color surrounding the green felt attached to the game board.

One diagonal has the "[COLOR 1] BASE", "BAD FORM", "[COLOR 2] GOAL" circle, then a mermaid with a mirror in the water with the text, "IN THE SWIM WITH A PRIVILEGE.", then the "[COLOR 1] GOAL", then "BAD FORM", and finally, "[COLOR 2] BASE", where [COLOR 1] is blue and [COLOR 2] is red. The other diagonal is similar, except the colors are green and yellow.

Outside the pink diagonals are four triangular scenes, with three of them marked "TAKEN FROM LIFE". The three marked thus depict: (1) six men and women sitting at a table; (2) a man and a woman standing, facing away from a woman playing a piano at rear left with a man turning the sheet music; and (3) a woman sitting on a chaise longue on a deck overlooking water. The remaining triangular scene depicts a woman (in red dress, hat, and sash) in a carriage pulled by two horses with two men in top hats driving.

Each of the four colors has four winks and one squidger.

Cards marked "A PRIVILEGE IN" above "RESERVE.", measuring 2 3/4" by 1 3/4", are provided with pink (2), red (3), yellow (2), dull pink (2), green (3), and light blue (2).
