'The Game of "Crickets in the Grass"'
The Game of “Crickets in the Grass”
The crickets, which are the little pieces of colored wood, are first placed upon the felt discs, each player having a piece of felt and one aluminum cup. Figure one shows how the aluminum cup is held in the fingers. Press down on one end of the cricket. Draw the cup back slightly and the cricket will jump into the cup as shown in figure two. Two or more can play this game. All ten crickets are used by each player. Suppose that the first player puts in three only out of ten. This player puts down the number “3” with a pencil on a piece of paper. The next player may put in five, so that [sic] he puts down the number “5” on paper, and so on until someone makes a total score of 50. Should a player put in all ten crickets in succession, that player is allowed an extra five points.
