The title, "WAGON" above "TRAIN" (red letters with yellow then black lower-right shadows) is shown on a horizontal yellow rectangle background (with black outline) near the top, left of center. Below, on the yellow rectangle, appears "© 1960 BY REVUE PRODUCTIONS, INC.".
Below that, outside the yellow rectangle, "GAME" is shown over the white cloth covering of a Conestoga wagon occupying a majority of the game cover. Sitting in front of the wagon is a man (white had, gray hair, green-blue shirt, brown pants, black boots) holding a brown rifle and looking back to his right. Another man (black hair, black hat, brown suede jacket) is holding a pistol in each hand, looking to his right.
A brown barrel is attached to the right side of the wagon.
At left rear, in the distance, is another Conestoga wagon on a brown ground surface.
On the left side of the main cover illustration, over the sky near the bottom, is the "Good Housekeeping" logo and "PARENT'S MAGAZINE" logo.
On the left side of the cover is a vertical gray rectangle with the company logo at top. Below that appears "FOR AGES" above "6 to 14" in black in a white box. Below that is "MILTON" above "BRADLEY" above "COMPANY" above "SPRINGFIELD" above "MASSACHUSETTS".
At bottom left, the catalog number "4020" is shown in black in a white rectangle. At bottom left is "MADE IN U.S.A.".
The bifold cardboard game board measures 16 1/4" wide by 16 1/8" high, and about 1/8" thick.
It depicts a race path with "START" at lower righ adjacent to a smiling gray-haired man with a brown cowboy hat. The path consists of solid black dots that heads left, curves back to the right and upward, back to the left, to the right again, and finally to the left at the top, at "FORT LARAMIE".
6 solid black pistols appear along the route.
Illustrations along the route include a hand with a pistol at lower left in a yellow circle (which is where winks are shot from), 2 American Indians with aquiver and a rifle overlooking a train of Conestoga wagons, another view of the train of Conestoga wagons, a cowboy (yellow hat) on a brown horse waving across the plains, an encampment encircled by wagons, two American Indians with bows and arrows, a wolf walking around cactus, an American Indian and cowboy fighting with knives, and a cowboy holding a pistol and wearing a blue bandana over his mouth and nose.
"WAGON TRAIN" (in red with white and black lower-right shadows) and "GAME" (in blue) appear on a white banner at bottom with brown borders. Below it, to left, is "© 1960 BY REVUE PRODUCTIONS, INC.".
At bottom right is "4020-X".
The red plastic winks measure 5/8" in diameter. The squidger (2" long and 1" high, measured parallel to the barrel) comes in the form of a plastic gun; winks are shot with the end of the barrel.
Four wooden mover pieces (5/8" in diameter, 3/16" thick) are supplied, in blue, green, red, and yellow, which mark the positions along the route of players according to spins of the spinner that is attached to the box bottom build-up, numbered 1, 5, 2, 4, 6, and 3, with Conestoga wagons around its circumference.
Cardboard game targets are printed on the box bottom build-up and are intended to be removed for play. Each depicts an enemy on a white background with a folding base to stand them up on the game board. The following are provided: "RENEGADE", "BANDIT", "WARRIOR", "INDIAN", "COYOTE", and "BUFFALO". These enemies are to be shot down with the red winks.
