The background of the top half of the cover is a deep blue, with a silhouette of a windmill at center in light blue. The title, "SPEAR" (sans serif font) over "KNIPSSPIEL" (serif) over "mit dem" (sans serif) over "HOLZSCHUH" (serif) (all in white with black outline).

A black background horizontal rectangle appears between the blue background at top and a red background filling the bottom half of the cover.

A right hand appears from the right, sporting a blue-black coat sleeve and a white shirt cuff. The hand is holding a blue squidger against a white wink, aiming it at the target, a wooden Dutch shoe. A green wink appears inside the shoe. A white wink is shown on the red background behind the shoe, and a yellow wink to the upper right. A green wink appears to the right of the shoe.

The logo, "Spear-Spiel" (in black), appears inside a black oval on the red background at lower left. Below it, on the white border, is "Ges. gesch.", which is an abbreviation for "Gesetzlich geschützt", that translates to "Protected by law".

Over the bottom right of the red background, the following appears: "VERLAG J. W. SPEAR & SOHNE NÜRNBERG W 13" (in black).
