Cover Description

The top label has a white outer border, then red, then thin black line, then white, then thin black line. The inner background is whtie.

A rectangle with a background that ranges from light brown to almost white stretches along the top, with "By Royal Letters Patent • Regd. at Stationers' Hall" at upper right. The rectangle is interrupted by a circuar ring of the same colors with a white inner background, on which the price, "1'–" (1 shilling no pence) appears in red with black shadow down and to the right. The light brown of the rectangle extends partially down the right side.

Below the light brown rectangle, the background at top is white at left, turning to pink and then red to the right. On this area, "THE nEW GAME of" (black with a gray shadow with a gap) is shown.

Below, on a banner (yellow at left, ranging to white at center) is |"SALOMO"| (the "S" is red with flourishes and a black outline, and extends over the banner's edges; the remaining letters are black; all letters have a faint yellow shadow down and to the right, with a gap). Below the "S" is a vertical rectangle with a maze pattern in yellow and light brown.

To the right, still on the banner (now light yellow again) is "OR" and then slightly below and to the right, "FLIPPING", and then slightly below and to the right, "DRAUGHTS" (all in black).

"THE Inventor begs to request the public to observe that no one else has a right to make or publish this Game, as it is protected by Royal Letters Patent, and the Rules, &c., are Copyright, being entered at Stations' Hall.

There are reasons which make it necessary to state this clearly, as often unscrupulout persons, on the look-out to copy a good thing, offer to dealers inferior and somewhat similar games, but with other titles, forgetting that by so doing they are committing an illegal act and rendering themselves amenable to the law."

The bifold cardboard game board measure 9 5/8" wide by 9 3/4" high, and 1/16" thick. The playing side is a checkerboard consisting of 8 squares by 8 squares. The background color is yellow, and the squares plus filled circles inside them are black. The playing surface is affixed to the cardboard as two labels, separated by the fold.

The reverse side of the game board is black with a shiny repeating pattern resembling paisley.

Two envelopes (4 1/8" wide by 4" high) each contain winks. In copy 1, one envelope contains 4 white bome squidgers (1" diameter) and 23 bone winks (3/4"); the other: 4 sred quidgers and 24 red winks.
