The cover has a red box background with a pale yellow label that has an outer pale yellow border then a black line, white line, and gold thicker frame border.

Inside at the top of the label, the word "VIGNETTE" has a large gold "V" both in front of and behind a red ribbon (with a white/black top border and gold/white bottom border). The "IGNETTE" is in gold lettering with white and black shadows, following and within the red ribbon.

After a fold in the ribbon is "AUTHORS" in the same coloring. At center below the title is a simple green wreath with a red bow. Below that is a black-and-white portrait of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. To the left are books and a genie lamp. To the right are papers, a quill, and an inkwell.
