Cover Description

The label affixed to the cover has a blue outer border and a generally pinkish background around the edges on on the sidewalk.

The title "THE" (green with black outline) and "ERRAND BOY" (letters that are green in the lower half and red in the upper half, with black outline and shadow) and "OR" (green with black outline) appears at top, with the letters formed on a path that is mostly concave down from left to right.

The majority of the cover consists of an illustration of a street scene on a sidewalk. A boy (tan hat, blue vest and jacket, white shirt, red/black bowtie, light brown knickers, dull brown socks, and brown high-laced shoes) at right is walking in that direction and is carrying two tan packages, and looking a bit to his right.

To his left and behind him on the sidewalk, is another boy (light brown cap, white shirt, green coat, purplish knickers, gray socks and dark shoes) with a cigarette in his mouth, holding a brown item to light the cigarette, and looking right and leaning slightly down at a younger boy (brown hat, orange scarf, red top, brown knickers with blue accents, and barefoot).

In the rear to the right of the smaller boy is a woman (big fancy brown hat, light blue jacket, long pink dress, white shirt and collar) standing near the doors to a shop, with a shield on a front column.

Al left rear is another woman (yellow/blue hat, dark blue top, light blue long dress) on the sidewalk looking into a store window of a headless mannikin wearing a light blue gown.

"FAILURE" (red with black outline and shadow) above "AND" (black) then "SUCCESS" (red with black outline and shadow) above "AN AMUSING GAME" (blue with black outline and shadow) appear at lower left.

At far lower left, "605" is shown.

At far lower right, "COPYRIGHT" above 1891" above "McLOUGHLIN BROS., NEW YORK." appears.
