The cover depicts five female cartoon characters, each with hair just over the ears and bangs on the forehead, and wearing narrow pointed hats with a round top. Each character is doing something different with large colored winks. At center is a shallow dish bowl and plate with red soup in it, and steam coming up from it. Two yellow winks are in the red soup.

The box has a wraparound label with multicolor graphics on top and all aprons.

The cover has a yellow outer border, then a black inner line, then a 1/4" inner light blue background, and then a white rectangle background at center.

The title, "IN THE SOUP" (green with black outline and black shadow) appears across the light blue and white background at top center. Below, on the white background, is "AN AFTER DINNER GAME" above "FOR CHILDREN" in black italic.

At lower left is the ship logo in black with "MADE IN SALEM, MASS U S A" around below, all on a white background inside a circle with a black circumference. Outside the circle is a wavy red area with an outer black line.

At bottom center in plain black letters is "PARKER BROTHERS, Inc." above "SALEM, MASS., NEW YORK, LONDON."
