This is a card game.
Game of
Literature
For three or more players, seated around a table.
This game consists of 72 cards, each bearing the name of a country and the name of some literary person, the year of birth, also of death if he has passed away. The dealer in the first game is chosen by lot, and thereafter the deal goes in turn to the left.
Shuffle the cards and deal one at a time, beginning at the left until each player has eight cards. The remainder are placed in a pile, face down, on the table.
The player at the left of the dealer commences the game by making as many "books" as he can from his hand. Three cards of the same country constitute a book. These books are laid aside to be counted at the end of the game. The player now calls on any player he wishes for any card (any country) he may need to complete a book. If the player called on has any card from the country named, he must give it up. First player then continues to call for and receive the needed cards from other players until he calls for a card from a person who has not that card; he then draws one from the pile and the next player begins. The Players follow in turn. The person having secured the largest number of books wins.
If played by two persons, only six cards should be dealt to each, the remainder of cards being placed face downward on the table. The game is then played just the same as described above.
