Game of Pig
For Two or More Players
This game is so simple that it can be played readily by the children, but is interesting to grown folks as well.
It is played the same way as “Old Maid.” The cards represent different kinds of animals, with two cards alike for each animal except the “Pig” of which there is only one.
In the beginning of the game the cards are well mixed, and dealt equally among the players. Each player first pairs or matches as many cards as he can from his hand. That is if he holds two cows he puts them together and lays the pair aside. The rest of the cards, the players must hold in their hands, spread out with the back toward the other players so they cannot see what is held. The dealer then draws a card from the player to his right. If the card drawn matches one in the drawer’s hand he puts them together and lays the pair aside. If it does not match with any he keeps it. It then becomes the turn of the player form whom the card was drawn. He draws one card from the player to his right and forms a pair if possible, so the game proceeds until all cards have been paired and laid aside.
The player holding at last the PIG card is called the “PIG.”
The deck consists of 35 cards. There are 17 pairs of animals numbered from one to 17 and one Pig card numbered 18.
