A label is attached to the cover, with a white outer border then a black border inside it. The main background is a pale offwhite/yellow.
At top center, "THE" above |"CHAD VALLEY"| above "GAME OF" appears in black. Below, "HOVERMOTH" appears in light pink/orange with black outline. Below that, at left, is "MADE AT THE CHAD VALLEY WORKS", and at right, "HARBORNE, ENGLAND."
The top profiles of different multicolor moths or butterflies appear in each corner, each facing inward.
The main illustration at center shows two light brown (wooden) stands, with a rectangular base and round rod upward. A string is tied between the stands near the top.
Three moths or butterflies are hanging on the string, as targets, and two more below it. Four winks (blue, yellow, pink/orange, and green) are flying toward the targets, each with a trail of curved lines. Four additional winks are still at lower left.
dark blue with dot texture
Five different multicolor moths/butterflies are included, each with a 5 3/4" wingspan and 2 5/8" body length. Each is curved concave up from front to back. At the edges of each wing a metal disc is held on with a round brown-striped paper. The metal disc (the size of a U.S. cent coin) serves as a weight for balancing the moths/butterflies on vertical stick poles.
Four stick poles are included; all are 1/8" in diameter: 11" tall in blue, 9" in green, 4 1/2" in orange, and 2 3/4" in yellow.
A small implements box (2 1/4" by 2 1/2" by 5/8"), labeled "THE CHAD VALLEY CO., LTD.,
CHAD VALLEY WORKS
HARBORNE." on each apron that opens, has a moth/butterfly sticker on top. Winks are inside the implements box: 4 large (1 5/32" diameter) and 5 small (2 1/32" in diameter) of red, teal, dull orange, and dark blue.
The game board is a painting signed by "H. F. Armitage" at lower left. It depicts a sunset over water with skimpy trees and rocks in the foreground. The board has 8 holes in it where the stick poles can be placeda
