Version 1 comes in a red box with silver lettering and a leatherette texture, and is marked "British Manufacture" and "Made in England" on the cover. "Glevum" appears on the game. The 4 cup game target has a square white piece at center.

The wraparound label has a faded red background. All lettering is in a silver color with extra serifs, and in all caps with larger initial capital. "MATCH" with a slight concave curve below, above an underscoring device, above a circle with a dot inside, above "TIDLEY with a slight concave curve below, above an underscoring device, above "WINKS" with a slight concave curve above.

"BRITISH MANUFACTURE" above "MADE IN ENGLAND" appears inside a rectangle at bottom, in a silver color.

Red (faded on Copy 1) with no design.

Four wooden cups (1 7/8" top and bottom diameter, 1 5/8" tall, with a concave side, where the base is wider), are nailed to a square wooden base (4 5/16" square, 5/16" tall), with a square (1 3/8" square, 1 3/4" tall) white block in-between. The wooden base is painted a shiny dark brown. Outer portions of cups are natural wood. Inner portions of cups are red, blue, yellow, and green.

The compartments inside the box bottom are tan.

Copy 1 includes quality plastic squidgers and winks with no burrs:

Squidgers (1" diameter): 1 green, 1 yellow, 1 red, 1 blue.

Winks (11/16" diameter): 4 green, 4 yellow, 4 red, 4 blue.
