The metal gameboard (16 3/8" square) has two sides, one with the game, Motor Race, and the other with a checkerboard. The Motor Race game is vertical when viewed as a diamond. The edges of the metal gameboard have a thicker rim, and the corners are rounded.

Two spinners with arrows are integral to the Motor Race game board. Each spinner has the following numbers around it: 0, 1, 0, 2, 3, 1, 0, 2, 0, 1, 2, and 3.

A grandstand with fans is show at the top of the gameboard, with additional spectators standing behind a fence adjacent to the game's oval race course. "START & FINISH" are in the same yellow cell just below those spectators. The board has 24 yellow cells, which are rectangular at top and bottom but are circular segments to the left and right. Most cells have no text. Cells are present with the following text: "REPAIR PIT", "TIRE TROUBLE" over "Go Back to Repair Pit", "GASOLINE STATION", "OUT OF GASOLINE" over "Go Back to Gas Station", and "COLLISION" over "Go Back to Start".

The title, "MOTOR RACE" (light blue with white border, black border, then black and dotted black shadows to the lower right) appears below the yellow race track on a red background.

Below it is a rounded green area with "PATENTED JAN. 13, 1925" at top, "DIRECTIONS FOR PLAYING" below it, the instructions text, and "MADE ONLY BY" above "WOLVERINE SUPPLY & MFG. CO." above "N.S., PITTSBURGH, PENNA." over "U.S.A.", all in black text.
