A tower fills the cover with a rounded top, with the sides narrowing from bottom to top. The tower is mostly blue with a black outline but there are 7 narrow yellow stripes (with black outlines) across the tower from top to bottom, each a bit wavy.
A ramp spirals around the tower from the top, where there is a gray opening, to the bottom. The outsides of the ramp are red, the floors yellow, and the insides gray. Five gnomes are sliding down the ramp. The top one is in gray-blue, the next one down, in brown, the next, in green, the next, in brown, and the final one in green.
The outer wall of the spiral ramp says "HELTER" on one strand which is above "SKELTER" on a lower strand (both red with black outline then yellow, on black).
At the bottom of the tower is a door with stairs leading down from it (into the bottom apron). The left and right sides of the door have columns with white and green diagonal stripes and a green base. The tops of the columns are yellow. the arch over these columns has a red decorative element at left and right, and a white/blue oval at center with green and yellow on top.

The playing surface is mounted on a surface in the box-bottom build-up. The base surface has wavy paths of yellow with dark blue borders on either side of them forming a mesh. At some intersections of the mesh is a hole where a marble can come to rest; these holes are marked (in black) with a numerical value. From bottom to top, the numerical values are 50, 20 and 20, 25 and 20 and 25, 30 and 30, 25, and 20 and 20.
A helical path is formed for the marbles to role down from the top to the base surface with the numbered holes. This path is held up by a natural wooden dowel (7 1/2" tall, 3/8" in diameter at maximum) with a narrow end at the top that fits in to the center portion of the helix which is held up on top. The bottom of the wooden dowel has a slot in its center; it fits into a hole in the base.
A ball placed in the top of the helix has about 2 circumferences of the helix to travel downward before it hits the base where it is expected to seek one of the numbered holes.
8 balls are provided: 5 dull dark green, 1 dull medium green, 1 offwhite, and 1 mottled red.
