Directions for Playing

Fox and Geese

With a sharp knife or shears, cut off the end of this card at point shown by the dotted line on the other side. Then carefully trim around the disks. There is on Fox, represented by the red counter, which must be placed in the center of the board. There are fifteen Geese (black counters) which are set as shown by the black spots on the Diagram.

The Fox has the first move and can move on a line in any direction from one circle to the next, but not move over a circle. The Geese can move in a forward direction, square or diagonally, and to the right or left, but not backward, either square or diagonally. The Fox can jump over a Goose whenever a chance is offered and remove her from the board as in “Checkers.” The Geese cannot jump the Fox. The object of the game is to pen the Fox with the Geese so that he cannot move. If the Fox can get through or around the Geese, of course he wins, as the Geese cannot move backwards and consequently cannot pen him when he is behind them. It is possible for the geese to pen the Fox every game.
