The cover has a label with a red outer border and a generally yellow background except near the bottom, which has an offwhite background.

A red ring appears in the upper left corner, with white inside. On the white background, a hand is holding a rod (white with black outline) agains a jackstraw (black with red tip). Around bottom appears the phrase "MAGNETISM UTILIZED IN A NEW WAY".

A table fills most of the label, sporting a tablecloth that's yellow on top and orange/red on the sides. The tablecloth extends down near the floor, with decorative red half-circles inside two horizontal red lines near the bottom of it. The bottom of the tablecloth has a yellow/orange fringe.

Five people surround the table. A girl (red dress, blonde hair) is leaning over the table with her feet behind her on a chair. Above her is an older woman (gray curly hair, yellow dress). To her right a boy (red hair, white frilly collar, red shirt) is sitting down at the table. To his right, a man (brown hair, red tie, white shirt, yellow vest) is seated and looking on. To his right, a woman (brown hair, red jacket, yellow blouse) is standing and leaning over with her right hand at the center of the table. To her right, a boy (brown hair, light blue outfit, red/black striped shirt underneath) is standing and leaning in to the table with his right hand extended over the table. On the yellow tablecloth, a variety of black jack straws are stewn about.

"MAGNETIC" (red with black outline) over "JACK STRAWS" (white with black outline) appear over the side of the tablecloth hanging down.

Below the tablecloth at center bottom, "TRADE MARK REGISTERED" over "INTERESTING, UNIQUE, CAPTIVATING TO YOUNG AND OLD" (in black) is shown. To the right, "COPYRIGHT 1891 BY E.I. HORSMAN" appears.

The game comes with an assortment of jackstraws made of metal (less than 1/16" thick). One copy (copy 1) includes the following:

16 straight jackstraws (3 3/8" long)
1 straight jackstraw (3 5/8" long) with a semicircle curve at center
2 jackstraws (3 3/4" long) with a short zigzag 3/4" from each end
1 jackstraw (3 1/2" long) with a 3/8" bend at one end
2 jackstraws (3 3/8" long) with a very slight bend at center
1 jackstraw (3" long) with a 3/4" right-angle bend at one end, and a very slight 1" bend at the other end
1 jackstraw (3 3/4" long) with a slight 1/4" bend at one end and a 5/8" zigzag at the other end
1 jackstraw (3 3/4" long) with a 3/8" zigzag 3/4" from one end and a faint bend 3/4" from the other end
1 jackstraw (3 3/4" long) with a zigzag 3/8" from one end
