THE FROG POND

Well-tamed little frogs are frolicking happily around the pond, when a stork suddenly arrives he's a general savior! Beware of lagging and clumsy frogs! This little scene gave us the idea for a game that we hope will be well received.

We play with two or more people; each player brings a stick, a frog and tokens.

At the start of the game, one of the players will take the bank he will keep for ten moves and then pass it to the player to his right and so on, until all players have been bankers; this will end the game.

Each player ready to attack will have to hold their stick on the bone wink on which the frog rests. At the signal to play, the banker, representing the stork, will pronounce the following three digits: 1, 2, 3; the last number spoken all the players, without exception, will immediately and strongly press their stick on the bone wink to bring the frog back into the pond.

The player who manages to jump his frog properly in this pool will receive two tokens from the banker, but if the frog lands on its back, the player will only receive one token; on the contrary, if the player jumps his frog out of the pond, he will give a token to the banker; likewise, if by clumsiness or inattention the frog could not leave its starting point, two tokens must be returned to the bank.

As said above, after ten frog jumps, the bank passes to the next player.

The winner will be the one with the most tokens in the cashier when the game is over.

Cover Description

The top label has no border, except for a very short black line at top on the right.

"LA MARE aux GRENOUILLES" (in black, serifed font with indents at the tops and bottoms of letters) appears at top. "LE PLUS CHARMANT JEU DE SOCIÉTE" (in black, regular serifs, smaller size) appears below.

Most of the top half of the illustration depicts a sky, in various shades of blue. Below are rolling purplish hills, and below that, pale green trees and greenery.

A pond appears below (with blue water). Cattails appear at the left of the cover, with a small piece of brown land behind it, from which a frog (green with red eyes) is diving into the pond. Another frog (same colors, with also a white area below the mouth) is peeking up out of the pond's water just to the right of the cattails.

The rest of the illustration, from lower left to the right, halfway up the cover, is brown land. At bottom, left of center, a front is standing on its rear legs, looking away from the cover. Right of center is a sitting frog playing a lute.

Behind that frog, and slightly to the left, another frog (wearing red shorts) is about to dive into the pond.

At upper right, a crane (wearing glasses) is perched behind a brown fence with two posts. Two frogs are at right in front of fence, one wearing red/white striped shorts.

An addition frog is seen in the lower right corner.

"M. D. PARIS" (in black) appears at the bottom, near the left.

Underlabel Description

The background is pale pink. The larger repeating design (in a golden brown) is a "+" sign formed from 4 semicircles; in addition, there are smaller, regular "+" signs in the repeating pattern.
